Samara Adamson-Pinczewski
Samara Adamson-Pinczewski is an artist who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. She received a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) from Monash University in 1998, a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) (Honours) from RMIT University in 1999, a Master of Fine Art (Research) from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2003, and a PhD from the School of Art, RMIT University in 2013.
Samara has held seven solo exhibitions in Melbourne since 2000, and has participated in forty-four group exhibitions locally and internationally since 1998. Samara’s practice focuses on the relationship between geometric abstract painting, architecture and urban space. Her paintings, drawings and installations explore ambiguous pictorial spatial readings created through the use of reflective materials, fragmented abstract form and oblique linear structures.
Samara’s work has been shown in curated group exhibitions including Abstraction 12, Charles Nodrum Gallery (2013), Frames of Reference, Langford120 (2011), My Australia, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei University of Fine Arts, Taiwan (2010), and The Opposite of Forgetting: An exhibition of memory and identity, Helen Gory Galerie (2009). Her work has also been selected as a finalist in the Redland Art Award, Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland (2012), the Stan & Maureen Duke Gold Coast Art Prize, Gold Coast City Gallery (2011), the City of Darebin La Trobe University Acquisitive Art Prize, Bundoora Homestead Art Centre (2009 and 2005), and the Brett Whiteley Traveling Art Scholarship, Brett Whiteley Studio (2005 and 2004).
Samara has undertaken residencies at The Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts, New Berlin, New York, USA (2013) and Taipei Artists Village, Taiwan (2011). The Jewish Museum of Australia and major private collections in Australia and the USA have acquired her work. An exhibition catalogue detailing her recent paintings was published in 2013.
