Liliana Barbieri
Liliana Barbieri is an Italian born Australian artist living and working in Melbourne. Her multidisciplinary art practice is research and project based and her works traverse the intersection between figuration and abstraction articulating a variety of themes and concepts.
Her commitment to cross cultural exchange has led her to exhibit overseas as well as Australia. Her work has featured in museums and galleries including Immigration Museum, Melbourne, Museo Castello Ducale, Italy, Imagine Gallery, Beijing, SMU, Sangmyung University, South Korea, the Darebin‐La Trobe Art Prize, Maroondah Gallery and Counihan Gallery. Over the past twelve years Liliana has lectured in painting, Design Theory, and Visual Culture at tertiary institutions in Melbourne and in Hong Kong and South Korea.
“The creation of art takes me on a continuous journey of discovery. Fascinated by the formal qualities of dark and light, colour and movement, my subject matter constantly shifts and evolves as the work traces the nuances of personal and cultural memory to manifest my ideas. I draw on various techniques and materials including painting, photography and light projection to create a hybrid of the visible and the invisible, while notions of time, space and longing remain the central underpinning.
