Micky Allan
For some years the focus of my work has been the vastness and changeability of the sea. My attention is now returning to land and the interior. Inland: more than meets the eye speaks of inland not only as place, but as an interior state, merging the ordinary and the mysterious in unexpected ways. Rising out of experiences at Lake Mungo, Uluru, Flinders Ranges, Weerewa and a recent trip North to the Kimberly and Kakadu, it draws on the strange balance between vitality and stillness in the Australian inland, and the curious sense of ongoing expansion it evokes.
Media in my work is diverse, ranging over painting, works on paper, engraved glass panels over works on paper and installation. In recent years I have also returned to photography, working collaboratively with Steenus von Steensen where we digitally combine photographic imagery taken by both of us with imagery of my painted or drawn other artwork. The new photographic work includes some hand painting and some engraved glass overlay. Our most recent body of work was Near and far, now and then.
