My practice sits within the genre of abstraction and incorporates a strong relationship with materiality, multi layering, and the processes involved in the making of the work. These elements are used to a point where they become an integral part of the work. Rhythmic repetitive or disrupted pattern brings a harmony between the action of making and the end result, the aim being to explore a contemplative approach to the many levels of ‘reading’ or communicating within visual and writen language both within the works themselves and also with the individual interpretations of the audience/viewer.
As a Melbourne based artist, curator and independent scholar, I completed my PhD from Monash University’s Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Department of Fine Art in 2010. My research centred on non-objective abstraction and its role contemporaneously. As a Research Associate of the Monash University Department of Fine Art from 2010 to 2013 I presented at a number of conferences in Australia and overseas on this subject. I have had an extensive exhibiting history, having held 30 solo exhibitions and taken part in many curated, touring and group shows in Australia and overseas. I have also completed a number of commissions, been shortlisted in competitions, have had residencies in Perth and Sydney, and have work in important collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria.
