SLOW Viewing Reading
Gali Weiss Lyn Ashby
SLOW Viewing Reading reflects an interest in temporality and movement that is common to both our practices. We anticipate a viewing that is immersive and participatory, and that takes time.
The work on exhibition concerns itself with notions and actions that are time-based and that offer alternative narrative understandings and perceptions. We feel that the artist’s book and moving image of our practices both drive and are driven by concepts of non-linear sequential readings and experiences.
Lyn’s work centres on the artist’s book as an experiment in reading, and our mysterious capacity to apprehend meaning in liminal and layered visual-textual material. Lyn is recipient of a 2016 Siganto Artists’ Books Fellowship, State Library of Queensland and his work is represented in major Australian and International public collections. His work can be viewed on his website http://www.lynashby.com
Gali’s work comprises works on paper and moving image in video format, based on drawing approaches and methods that marry the digital and the handmade. The work offers a viewing of drawing as moving image that evolves in form and in meaning. Please visit www.galiweiss.com to view other work and texts of Gali’s practice.
