Harriet Parsons, Homeland #2: Principals for a New Australian Democracy
November 17th - December 16th, Opening Function Saturday November 17, 2-4pm
Principles for a New Australian Democracy is the second exhibition in the Homeland series. The exhibitions present prototype artifacts for a 'modern colonial' Australian culture based on the relationship between Captain Cook and Tupaia the Polynesian who joined the Endeavour in Tahiti. While on the voyage Cook and Tupaia made a map of the Pacific which hybridised British and Polynesian systems of navigation. The Homeland project imagines the other hybrid instruments of cultural communication which might have been developed to produce the principles for a new Australian democracy.
