Stephen Spurrier, Intrepid Gaze
August 11 - September 10 2011, Exhibition opening event Saturday August 13th, 2-5pm
Stephen Spurrier’s series of miniature paintings, collectively titled Intrepid Gaze presents an idiosyncratic and speculative reflection on the nature of the gaze. In this large group of miniature works Spurrier’s gaze oscillates between representations of a childlike fascination with the world, the wistful gaze of the initiated and ultimately the portentous indecipherable stare of the monster. Ancient generic moons float by a variety of paraphernalia, acting as a reminder of the significance of our own mortality amidst this mix of fanaticized activity.
All works: From, the series Intrepid Gaze, mixed media on canvas. [Stephen Spurrier CV] |
